Customized and MD Training

Customized Firearm Training

Whether you are looking for just a basic firearm safety course to a guided lesson on Sporting Clays, or a customized lesson on personal protection and a home safety walk-through, I can provide customized firearm and safety training to fit your need and budget.

Individual or Group Archery Training

Single class/day or long term programs available using the USA Archery training techniques and methods.  Call, Email, or Text to set up a schedule.

Marland Handgun Qualification License (HQL)

A person may not purchase, rent, or receive a handgun after October 1, 2013 unless they possess a valid Handgun Qualification License (HQL) issued by the Maryland State Police. This four hour course covers:

  • State Firearm Law. Overview of the State firearm laws, including discussion of what constitutes a regulated firearm, how to properly purchase or transfer a firearm, where allowed to carry or transport a firearm, when necessary to possess a carry permit, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, and state law relating to minors, permissible levels of force, and use of deadly force.
  • Home Firearm Safety. Overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home, including discussion of access to minors, locking and storing of firearms, and use of safety devices, such as secure lock boxes.
  • Handgun Mechanisms and Operation. Overview of the proper operation and safe handling of a handgun, including cleaning and maintenance, the loading and unloading of ammunition, and the differences between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.
  • Operation and Handling Demonstration. Orientation component that demonstrates the person’s safe operation and handling of a firearm, to include a “live fire” component in which the applicant safely shoots the firearm.

 Maryland Wear and Carry (HGP) Training

16 hours of instruction for an original application and 8 hours of instruction for a renewal application. The approved training will include instruction on state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation, and a component that requires the applicant to demonstrate gun safety and proficiency with a minimum score of 70% accuracy.

All Shooting is completed outdoors at the Berwyn Rod & Gun Club in Bowie MD.

Classes may be scheduled in 4 or 8 hour sessions weekday evenings 5 pm - 9 pm or anytime Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as needed.

NRA Certified Training Courses

  • NRA FIRST Steps Pistol, Rifle, or Shotgun Orientation (4 hours)
  • NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (8 hours)
  • NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting (8 hours)
  • NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting (10 hours)
  • NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home (8 hours)
  • NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home (14 hours)
  • NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading (8 hours)
  • NRA Certified Shotgun Shell Reloading (6 hours)
  • NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (9 hours)

NRA Certified Instructors may apply for MD QHIC and be exempt from future HGP recertification training.

Gunsmithing

Firearms Repair and Upkeep Services

I offer basic firearm repair and cleaning services (and training in the same), sight/scope installation and sighting, finish repair and blueing, and collaborate with Chris Cockrum of Accuforge Gunsmithing for the more detailed and more technical services.  Chris is an FFL certified Gunsmith with in-depth knowledge and is a Subject Matter Expert in all facets of the Firearms Industry.
